Beware of Blenders that carry pigment with them: Blender Bristle, Blender Brush, Mixer Thin Flat, Real Blender Round, Real Blender Tapered, Soft Blender Brush, and Wet Oily Blender.

Digital Watercolors

Digital Watercolors, unlike Real Watercolors and Watercolors, work on normal layers and don't require a special watercolor layer.

Impasto Oils

The level of depth of the impasto can be turned on and off and controlled through the Canvas Menu under Surface Lighting..., Hide/Show Impasto, and Clear Impasto

Palette Knives

Some Knives carry pigment along with smooshing around the pigment already on the canvas or layer: Loaded Palette Knife, Neon Knife, Smeary Palette Knife, and Tiny Smeary Knife. Impasto Palette Knife affects only the imposto's lumpiness.

Real Watercolor and Watercolor work only on watercolor layers, and will create a new watercolor layer automatically if you try and paint on a normal layer.

Splashing Water (Skip Allen Custom Brushes)

Brushes highlighted in yellow work like Digital Watercolors, and don't need a Watercolor layer to work. The other brushes work only on Watercolor layers.

Watercolor: Flats are a subset of the Watercolor brushes. Watercolor and Real Watercolor work only on watercolor layers, and will create a new watercolor layer automatically if you try and paint on a normal layer.

Watercolor: Runny

Watercolor: Runny are a subset of the Watercolor brushes. Runny brushes use Wind Force and Wind Direction in the Water panel in the Brush Control panels to control their "runniness". Watercolor and Real Watercolor work only on watercolor layers, and will create a new watercolor layer automatically if you try and paint on a normal layer.
